On hold

Well, it's been a while.

The Dead Humans project is indefinitely postponed simply due to available time. The good news is, well, that being too busy is good news. Other art directions are keeping me busy these days. In the meantime, I hope these creepy characters continue to haunt my daydreams and continue to develop.

Concept Art: A Master

An original Master from the animated series:

I was never happy with the "horseshoe crab" version. They were bug-like, but not scary or creepy enough. And it was a harder stretch having them go around speaking "human".

One idea for the new version:

Basically, a head-sized spider with a somewhat humanoid face on its back. Reaching the creepiness level desired. I'm imagining the leaders among their ranks riding atop decapitated Workers à la Headless Horseman style. They're a work in progress. *EDIT* I had no idea the game Half-Life does something exactly like this last idea... so, back to the drawing board a bit.

The Masters run the Ship, controlling both the factions of dead humans (Workers and Hunters) to do their bidding. From the onset, it seems their goals are to 1) Go about space, plundering for resources to eventually take home, 2) To ever-expand the behemoth Ship to accommodate, and 3) To hunt down human colonies to create more undead slaves. Fun times.

Concept Art: Gregor

Original concept of Gregor from the animated short series. He'll probably end up with more "real" proportions and his slave state more industrial mechanics than the current bug-like representation.

The story is seen mostly through his eyes. Gregor is an undead slave "brain" Worker who has become mostly self-aware. He recruits others to rebel against the Masters, only to find his efforts could be part of a greater, darker plan.

Concept Art: Shell Creature

Just an idea for one of Gregor's companions (still unnamed), a member of a species the ship's Masters have taken on board as a stolen resource from their countless raids. He breaks from his complacent people to help Gregor's efforts.
